This is the headline on the Northern Illinois Conference’s website.  We all have heard by now of the devastation in Haiti and we have said our prayers and thought about helping.  What is so exciting about being a United Methodist is that UMCOR is already there.  UMCOR stands for United Methodist Committee on Relief.  It was the first organization to help in Katrina, it enters into more countries around the world than the Red Cross.  All money donated is used in direct relief (no money is used for administrative purposes).  I am proud to be a United Methodist.  I am proud that we are there within hours of a disaster.  But, I must do my part.  I must help to give.  I must share of my wealth so that those who have lived in the highest level of poverty in the western hemisphere and are least equipped to manage such a disaster can find hope and relief.  Please join me and the millions of United Methodists around the world by praying for Haiti and giving.

TAKE A MOMENT and donate to UMCOR:  Here is a direct link to the UMCOR Haiti relief  http://secure.gbgm-umc.org/donations/umcor/donate.cfm?code=418325&id=3018760.

  1. Our UMW unit will be meeting on Thursday and the focus of this meeting will be on relief for Haiti. These people desperately need our help.

  2. Are teams being organized for earthquake relief?

Please contact me. Thanks, Bill Baker, Ukiah CA UMC

  3. Yes, teams are being organized. The best way is to contact UMCOR. More than likely, however, teams will not be allowed in without specialized training for quite a while. ut relief packages are always something organized immediately and you can always give financially. Check out http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/

  4. Renee, a member of our church wrote me a note: I would like to make a prayer request or a prayer thank-you. I received an email from my dad this morning. My step-moms brother is currently in Haiti working with the UN. We received an email from him that he was okay! So Praise God!
